About Coast Mental Health
Since 1972, Coast Mental Health has been a trusted non-profit helping people living with mental illness recover and thrive. We provide housing, support services, and employment opportunities to empower recovery.
Our client-focused, recovery-oriented approach ensures that individuals lead their own journey. Clients set goals, choose programs, and often give back as peer support workers, volunteers, and governance members.
Our 2024–2027 Strategic Plan – Building a Healthy Approach

Our Strategic Plan is built on ambition, courage, humility, and optimism, even as we address urgent challenges like the toxic drug crisis, homelessness, and rising mental health needs in BC.
Together, every day we prove that recovery from serious mental illness is possible.
Understanding Mental Illness
Just like physical illnesses, mental illness is part of being human. It’s the result of a complex mix of genetic, biological, personality and environmental factors.
Mental illness is common and can affect anyone. It might be isolated episodes of worry or anxiety, the same way you’d pick up a bad cold or flu. For some, it will be a more complex condition with lasting consequences, like depression, schizophrenia and borderline personality disorder.
Despite this, 75% of people don’t seek help. Learn more at heretohelp.bc.ca.
