SUPPORT IN CRISIS?

Nurses Answer the Call

Nurses week is upon us and Coast Mental Health (CMH) is taking this opportunity to acknowledge the tireless work of our 60 nurses every single day, especially over the last two years of this pandemic. The theme for National Nurses week is #WeAnswerTheCall, and we can confirm that the nurses here at CMH did just that.

“Coast Puts People First”

Phil Lewinson, Senior Community Homes Manager, has been with Coast Mental Health for 14 years, much longer than he had originally planned. “I was retired, but seeing this great organization that shares my passion and philosophy on person-centred care made me stay.”

The compassion and strong values built into this organization are part of why CMH has been recognized as a BC Top Employer of 2022. Phil also recognized the leadership of Renay Bajkay, RN and Director of Housing Services, who has been with CMH for 28 years.

Phil works with staff at Community Homes across the Lower Mainland to ensure a high standard of care.

Phil completed his schooling and began his career in 1970 in the United Kingdom before moving to Canada. His first career, and “first love” was nursing, but also sought education and experiences in HR. All of this was prior to continuing post-retirement with CMH.

Nurses Take Care of the World

During these 52 years as a Registered Nurse, Phil and his nursing colleagues have been through many crises. Phil says that nurses always support one another like family.

“This pandemic wasn’t the first crisis, but the most severe I’ve been through. We don’t give up and we stick with our team through it. We have a voice, and our contributions are for the wellbeing of all. We take care of the world.”

Despite the challenges of the years, Phil believes that Nursing is one of the most rewarding profession that anyone could chose to follow.

Thank you to Phil and all of the nurses who work at CMH and across Canada! We are grateful for your dedication and care for every Canadian who asks. #WeAnswerTheCall
