Coast Mental Health is a Vancouver-based non-profit dedicated to empowering people with mental illness. We believe that with access to essential resources—housing, support services, employment opportunities, and education—everyone can thrive and contribute to our communities.
Our client-centred, community-driven approach ensures that each person we serve leads their own recovery journey, while partnering with our Coast team to set meaningful goals and choose the programs and services that best support their success.
Over time, we have expanded our reach and services and remain committed to growing our programs in response to community needs. We currently operate 54 sites that provide more than 1,100 homes and support thousands more through community-based programs.
Just like physical illnesses, mental illness is part of being human. It’s the result of a complex mix of genetic, biological, personality and environmental factors.
Mental illness is common and can affect anyone. For some people, a mental illness might impact them for a few weeks or months. For others, mental illness can be a more complex condition with lasting consequences, like major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, and borderline personality disorder.
With the right care, people with mental illness can live healthy, engaged, and good lives. People with mental illness thrive in all kinds of jobs, neighbourhoods, and communities.
Coast Mental Health operates two social enterprises: Landscaping with Heart and the Social Crust Cafe and Catering. Coast Social Enterprises also runs the Transition Employment Program, which provides street cleaning services.
These social enterprises and employment programs exist to help our clients gain meaningful work experience, learn how to manage their mental health in the workplace, and help break down the stigmas around mental illness. At the same time, they generate revenue to support Coast Mental Health’s programs and services.
