Coast Mental Health dedicated the month of July to Courage. During Courage To Come Back Month, the stories of five British Columbians who have overcome extraordinary adversity to come back and give back to their own communities will be celebrated.

The Courage To Come Back Awards raises critical funds to support some of B.C.’s most vulnerable populations.  Now, more than ever, people experiencing mental illness need you. Without you, key services such as daily affordable meals, free toiletries and showers and mental health support, amongst many others may be at risk. In this time of uncertainty, if you’d like to consider donating to Coast Mental Health Foundation, we would be grateful for your support and generosity.

At Coast Mental Health, we know that with the right supports, people can overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges, build better lives and contribute meaningfully to our communities.

First held in Vancouver in 1999, the Courage To Come Back Awards were born out of our firsthand experience of the human spirit’s inspiring capacity to overcome adversity and our wish to celebrate British Columbians who have found the courage to come back.

The Courage To Come Back Awards are given in five categories:

  • Mental Health
  • Addiction
  • Medical
  • Physical Rehabilitation
  • Youth

Courage To Come Back Award recipients are recognized at a gala celebration every spring where their stories are told and accomplishments honoured. Chaired by Lorne Segal, O.B.C., D.Litt. (Hon.), LLD. (Hon.), President of Kingswood Properties Ltd., the Courage To Come Back Awards gala has become Coast’s most important fundraiser.

Nearly 1,700 people attended the 21st annual event on April 24, 2019, raising an extraordinary $2.5 million for mental health. Funds raised from the Courage To Come Back Awards ensure Coast Mental Health can continue providing the innovative, client-centered programs that have made Coast a leader in community-based mental health care.
