Rivers Reach welcomes residents of Maple Ridge
The construction of 52 new purpose-built homes with supports in Maple Ridge are now complete.
The new building, named Rivers Reach, ʔi cən tecəl ʔə tə stɑl̕əw̓ (“I arrive at the river” in Halkomelem), opens its doors to welcomes residents.
The exterior mural (photo above) is inspired by a playful otter and dreams. In this dream, the otter brings a message: “we are always protected by ancestral spirits.” This was created by Rain Awakens artist and owner Rain Pierre, from the Katzie First Nations.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated employees and community partners for their unwavering support during this transition to the new facility. Your contributions have been invaluable in making this move a success,” says Keir Macdonald, Chief Executive Officer, Coast Mental Health.

Rivers Reach, ʔi cən tecəl ʔə tə stɑl̕əw̓ ("I arrive at the river” in Halkomelem) opens in May 2025.
In partnership with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs, BC Housing, and Fraser Health, we have created a facility that focuses on harm reduction, recovery, and healing.
We are also grateful for the ongoing support and guidance provided by the City of Maple Ridge.
As the non-profit housing provider, Coast Mental Health will operate Rivers Reach, using a psychosocial and rehabilitation approach to encourage stabilization and recovery.
Fraser Health will offer onsite clinical supports, including nurses and allied health professionals, to ensure residents have access to comprehensive health care solutions for managing their wellness.
Rivers Reach will provide participants with physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness services to enhance housing stability for individuals who are not adequately supported by traditional health care systems.
Residents may also access Indigenous cultural supports and guidance, peer support groups, and life skills programming to foster community integration and promote more independent living.
These permanent, self-contained studio homes will replace the temporary modular homes at Royal Crescent, which have reached the end of their lifespan. Now that the modular units at Royal Crescent have been vacated, BC Housing will remove them and construct affordable homes for seniors on the property.
