In the early hours of September 21, 2025, a significant fire occurred at Garibaldi Ridge supportive housing in Maple Ridge.

The safety and well-being of our employees, residents, and neighbours is our highest priority. Despite the courageous efforts of Coast Mental Health staff on site and the swift response from the Maple Ridge Fire Department, we are deeply saddened that one resident tragically lost their life.

Our focus is on supporting the residents of Garibaldi Ridge and the loved ones of the resident who passed away. Twenty-two residents were temporarily relocated while restoration of affected units took place. All residents will be returning to their homes on September 24.

Coast Mental Health is supporting the investigations led by the Maple Ridge Fire Department, Office of the Fire Commissioner, and the B.C. Coroner Service. At this time, we will not speculate on the cause of the fire.

Coast Mental Health would like to thank first responders for their swift actions on Sunday. We would also like to thank the City of Maple Ridge, BC Housing, and Emergency Management BC for their support of residents and staff.

Coast Mental Health is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all who live and work in our communities. We continue to review and strengthen our emergency protocols, and we are grateful for the resilience and care shown by everyone involved.
