For more than 13 years, Dunbar Apartments has been a place where people find safety, stability, and a sense of belonging. Operated by Coast Mental Health, this 51-unit supportive housing facility is funded by the Province through BC Housing and Vancouver Coastal Health.
Residents at Dunbar benefit from 24/7 support from trained staff, nutritious meals, and wellness checks, opportunities for work, creation, and community connection.
A resident who has lived at Dunbar for 10 years, shared her appreciation for the safety, comfort, and independence the program offers:
| “I will stay here. This is my home. They say I’m doing well.” |
What makes this story even more inspiring is how the community has grown alongside Dunbar. Where there was once hesitation, there is now trust, friendship, and pride. Coast’s early efforts to engage the community through advisory committees, public meetings, and transparent communication were key to building trust.
Together, residents and neighbours have shown that supportive housing strengthens the entire community.
