Vancouver, BC (August 25, 2025) — Coast Mental Health and Marineview Housing Society have announced plans to amalgamate, bringing together two long-standing and respected organizations to strengthen and expand mental health services on the North Shore.
“Marineview has a proud 50-year legacy of community-based mental health care,” said Madeline Boscoe, Executive Director of Marineview Housing Society. “By joining with Coast Mental Health, we are ensuring that legacy not only endures but grows. This partnership allows us to address long-standing challenges and expand the services available to our residents and community. Their interest in joining with us is, in our view, good news for the North Shore.”
The amalgamation will ensure the long-term sustainability of quality care for Marineview clients and staff. All current services and staff will remain in place, while residents will have access to Coast’s expansion range of supports, including peer support, employment, and life skills programs.
“This is about building on what works,” said Richard Beed, Board Chair of Marineview Housing Society. “We’re proud of what Marineview has accomplished, and we’re confident that this partnership will allow us to meet the challenges of an aging population, aging building, and increasing complexity of mental illness.”
As part of the amalgamation, Marineview will become part of Coast Mental Health, and the services will be referred to as the Coast North Shore Programs. Coast Mental Health, a leader in community mental health services for over 50 years, currently operates more than 1,000 housing units and over 20 licensed homes across the Lower Mainland. The organization is known for its person-centred approach and full continuum of care built around the provision of stable housing, support services, and employment and education programs.
“This is a case where we are definitely stronger together,” said Keir Macdonald, CEO of Coast Mental Health. “This amalgamation enhances our ability to provide recovery-oriented care and positions us to better meet the growing and evolving needs of the North Shore communities. We’re excited to welcome Marineview’s staff and clients to Coast.”
Once complete, Marineview’s programs will continue and create a dedicated North Shore presence for Coast Mental Health. The transition is being carefully guided by both organizations’ leadership teams, with oversight from provincial regulators and health authorities.
“This is a thoughtful and strategic step forward,” said Stephen Butz, Board Chair of Coast Mental Health. “Together, we can ensure that high-quality, community-based mental health care remains accessible and sustainable for the next 50 years and beyond.”
The amalgamation is expected to be finalized in the coming months. Both organizations are committed to keeping clients, families, staff, and community partners informed throughout the process.
