Notice: WorkSafeBC Appeal in Progress

In November 2022, Coast Mental Health was notified it had received an Administrative Penalty from WorkSafeBC, and an order requesting we comply with certain Health and Safety provisions under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. This includes  accompanying regulations relating to violence risk assessments.  

As an agency recognized as a B.C. Top Employer in both 2021 and 2022, and awarded Exemplary Standing with Accreditation Canada (2022-2026), we are disappointed with this decision and disagree with certain findings in the report and have now filed an appeal with WorkSafeBC.  

The health and safety of all employees and clients is a top priority for Coast. And, we have always been a collaborative partner with WorkSafeBC in an effort to continuously improve our practices.  

Over the last six years, we have made significant investments in operational infrastructure to support safety, including dedicated safety positions and training, as well as the recent roll out of our learning management system that provides greater access to online learning and support for our employees. 

We continue to embrace feedback and learnings that will help us improve our practices, and to ensure that our working conditions remain safe for both our employees and the clients in our care.
